Derek graduated from University College Dublin in 1979. He joined RKD Architects as partner in 1996 and has been involved in the design of many of the firm's major projects.

He has 25 years' experience in the design and project management of industrial, office, commercial, leisure, residential and refurbishment projects including all aspects of design, construction and management. He has particular experience of large-scale industrial and office projects as well as expertise in masterplanning including site selective analysis and layout.

Derek is also responsible for increasing the efficiency and effectiveness of teamwork in the client design and construction team by developing and improving channels of communication through all aspects of the project from client briefing to construction management.
