Bloomfield Hospital

Location: Dublin Area: 4,400 sq. m. Completion: 2009 Cost: €26M

Bloomfield Hospital is an entirely new 72-bed hospital located on Stocking Lane, Rathfarnham, with the first phase completed in December 2004.

RKD Architects have also designed an additional 76-bed modern extension to the hospital for the Bloomfield Development Committee, which represents the Religious Society of Friends (otherwise known as the Quakers). This phase was completed in April 2009.

The new hospital extension comprises patient bedrooms with en-suite bathrooms, treatment rooms, catering facilities, communal dining facilities and administrative accommodation with all necessary ancillaries. There is also a separate service block with new heating boilers, standby generator and maintenance accommodation.

A key feature of the complex is the extensively-landscaped grounds that will provide patients and staff with recreational outdoor facilities including woodland walks and croquet lawns. The courtyard design of the facility allows for users to continuously have a connection with the outdoor facilities.

RKD has also designed a new meeting house to replace the existing premises in Donnybrook.
